REPORT OF PARTICIPATION IN MODEL UNITED NATIONS

August 24th to 25th, 2019

The student’s Participations in MUNs has been a tradition at Symbiosis International University, and in consonance with the same spirit, this time on the 24th and 25th of August 2019, the students of Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur , both from undergraduate level as well as the Post graduate level under the aegis of Literary and Debate cell participated in the Model United Nations organized by Laxminarayan Institute of Technology, under the able guidance of our Dr.Sukhwinder Singh Dari, Director, SLS, Nagpur, who has been a staunch advocate of student participation in various extracurricular activities. Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, not only took the initiative of making payments for delegate registration of LITMUN, on behalf of the students but also arranged to & fro transportation for all students as well.

The agenda discussed at LITMUN were according to the committee's allotted to students. The agenda, for UNSC committee was “Rising tensions between Iran and USA”, it's analysis and consequences. For UNGA DISEC (United Nations General Assembly Disarmament and International Security Committee- “Prevention of illicit arms trade”. The agenda for United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)- “Role of financial institutions & the G20 in tackling climate change”, Human rights council (HRC) –Agenda- “Reviewing the interrogation techniques in military & law enforcement”, The agenda for LOKSABHA -Amendment of Citizenship Bill and Violations of article-14, historic crisis committee – “The 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots and the aftermath”.

The knowledge and understanding gained by participating in LITMUN, was of immense help to the students and an experience worth remembering. The students participation was a grand success with Jatin Kumar, student of LLM, receiving SPECIAL MENTION CERTIFICATE for UNSC, Mishti Chelwani receiving SPECIAL MENTION CERTIFICATE for LOKSABHA, and Gayatri Chanchani receiving SPECIAL MENTION CERTIFICATE too.

Over all the participants were highly encouraged and motivated by Dr. Sukhvinder Singh Dari, Director SLS, Nagpur. Dr. Nuzhat Rizvi, faculty In charge, Literary and debate Cell coordinated the event. Mr. Snehjeet Meshram form the LLM Program was the student coordinator for the event.
