This is the official policy of the Training and Placement Cell (TPC), which focuses on the career and professional development of students. The TPC facilitates the all-round development of learners while also assisting them with obtaining internships and placements. This policy will replace all the previously issued policies and shall subsist until further notice.

Definitions

  • “Assessment Internships” mean internships that law firms and organisations offer to students with the express view of absorbing them on their satisfactory performance. These are usually long term internships and include traineeships.
  • “Campus Recruitment Process” means the process of facilitating recruitment for students of Fourth and Fifth year students of B.A./ B.B.A. LLB and LL.M.
  • “Disbarment” means the process of disqualification or barring of the student from the Campus Recruitment Process. It may be for a selected process or for the entire process.
  • “Disciplinary Action” shall include an internal disciplinary process headed by the Director, Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur and shall include, as and when required, action under the Code of Conduct, Symbiosis International Deemed University (SIU).
  • “Internship Process” means the process of facilitating internships primarily for students of the B.A./B.B.A. LL.B. and LL.M. programmes through the TPC.
  • “Placement Offer” means any offer received by the students for recruitment in any company/firm/organization/court or in the office of advocate or solicitor. It includes both Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) as well as appointment offer.
  • “Placement Policy” means this document and any other addendum/ amendment issued by Training & Placement Cell.
  • “Pre-Placement Offer” means any offer for placement received by the student in relation to interning at any company/ firm/ organisation/ court or in the office of an advocate or solicitor.
  • “Professional Development” means any initiative including but not limited to Seminar, Workshops, Value Added Courses, Guest Lectures, Mock Group Discussions and Personal Interviews conducted by the Training and Placement Cell to hone the skills of the students appearing for Internship process/ Campus Recruitment Process.
  • “Training & Placement Cell” means the faculty-cum-student body formed by Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur to facilitate the process of Campus Recruitment, Internship, and Professional Development.

The Training & Placement Cell shall only facilitate assessment internships and recruitments for fourth and fifth year students of B.A./ B.B.A. LLB, and LL.M. who opt for the assistance. It will, nonetheless, offer direction and counsel to students across all batches.

Role of the Training and Placement Cell

The Training & Placement Cell serves as a facilitator for placements.

Guidelines for Campus Recruitment Registration and CV Verification

Students wishing to participate in the Campus Recruitment Process must register with the Cell and undergo the internal ranking competition and CV Verification Process, in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined in the Placement Policy. The TPC will provide updates on the deadlines for these processes as they arise.

Authenticity and Verification of Information

  • Providing any misrepresentation or fraudulent information for the Campus Recruitment Process in the Curriculum Vitae (CV) will lead to the immediate disqualification of the student. Additionally, the student will be suspended from receiving any future recruitment-related assistance.
  • The Training & Placement Cell is not responsible for any errors or misrepresentations made by the student in submitting their CVs or following instructions. This includes but is not limited to:
    • i. Late submission of CVs.
    • ii. Incomplete or incorrect information provided in forms.
    • iii. Incorrect contact details.
    • Non-availability at provided contact details.
    • Communication made through means other than email to the designated Cell email.

Disbarment

A student may be suspended from participating in Campus Recruitment Processes facilitated by the TPC under the following cases:

  • If the student fails to attend the selection process on the scheduled day without prior notification.
  • If the student withdraws after being shortlisted for an assessment internship or placement by the firm/organisation.
  • If the student misbehaves or otherwise acts in an unprofessional manner during the interview or assessment internship at the organization.
  • Subject to the approval of the Director, SLS Nagpur, if the student violates this Policy in any other manner.

Presence for On-Campus Recruitments

Students participating in any Campus Recruitment Process must remain present for the entire duration till the process is completed. Failure to do so may result in strict action will be taken at the discretion of the Director, SLS Nagpur, including disqualification from future Campus Recruitment Processes.

Receiving an Offer

  • Once a candidate receives a Placement or Pre-Placement Offer, they will be considered placed, resulting in their automatic withdrawal from any subsequent Campus Recruitment processes.
  • The applicant receives any form of communication (official or unofficial) confirming a placement offer, they must promptly inform the Training and Placement Cell. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action, and such unprofessional behavior will also be reported to the prospective employer.

Bar on Multiple Applications to Same Recruiter

A student is not permitted to apply for multiple verticals or practice areas within the same Campus Recruitment Process unless explicitly instructed otherwise.

Example: If a student applies for Litigation as a vertical in a particular recruitment process, they are not allowed to apply for General Corporate within the same process.

Notification on Receipt of Non-TPC Facilitated Offer

Students must notify the Training & Placement Cell (TPC) if they receive a placement offer that was not facilitated through the TPC. Receiving such an offer will result in automatic withdrawal from all campus recruitment processes. Failure to report such offers may negatively impact other students' placement opportunities and will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action following an inquiry.

Students are encouraged to ask the employing organisation or firm to email the Training & Placement Cell regarding the secured offer. They are also advised to maintain open and transparent communication with the Cell.

Code of Conduct

Students who accept a Placement Offer are expected to honour their commitment and must not withdraw, renegotiate, or fail to join the assigned organisation. Any failure to do so may result in disciplinary actions, including suspension, expulsion, or withholding of their degree, in accordance with the SIU Code of Conduct. The TPC will additionally bar them from further assistance.

Any disciplinary complaint or behavioural issue raised against a student by any company, organistion, or court during the Campus Recruitment Process will be taken seriously and may lead to the student's removal from the process. Furthermore, any posts or actions by the student on social media that tarnish the reputation of SLS, Nagpur will lead to disciplinary action.

Students are strongly advised against directly contacting companies or organizations with whom the Training & Placement Cell is coordinating recruitment. If a student shortlisted for recruitment bypasses the Cell by contacting the company personally, the Cell reserves the right to immediately withdraw the student from the process. The student will also be barred from participating in future recruitment processes, and disciplinary action will be taken following an inquiry.

Prevention of Misconduct or Harassment

In case any student experiences an inappropriate incident, including sexual or other forms of harassment, or any unethical behaviour during the Campus Recruitment Process or any event held by the Training and Placement Cell, they are required to report the matter immediately to the Cell, providing any relevant evidence. The TPC will take prompt action.

Disclosure to Prospective Employers

Any misconduct during or related to the Campus Recruitment Process will be honestly disclosed to prospective employers.

Attendance at Training and Development Workshops and Programmes

Training & Development programs organised by the Cell are designed to prepare students for practice by the end of their law school tenure. Missing these programs will result in two warnings. A third absence will lead to disciplinary action and a disbarment from the Campus Recruitment Process, unless an exception is approved by the Director of Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur.

Contacting the Cell

Any queries related to the Recruitment Process should be directed via email to placementofficer@slsnagpur.edu.in, or through a call to 0712-6192226. Queries can also be addressed in person with the faculty member associated with the TPC, between 03:30 PM and 05:00 PM on working days (excluding university holidays).

Students are advised not to contact TPC faculty members on their personal phone numbers or email addresses after 5:00 PM. The Cell will not be responsible for any missed opportunities due to unofficial communication outside of business hours.

Penalty for Violation of the Policy

Students who violate any of the above clauses will be immediately suspended from the Recruitment Process pending investigation. Reinstatement in the Campus Recruitment Process will be subject to approval from the Director of Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur.
